Sidetorch

A sidetorch is an unforgivable lapse in taste and decency, which is disgusting and uncomfortable to the sight of all respectable Minecraft players. Whether or not the placement of a torch is considered an offence depends on how it makes Sl1pg8r feel when he sees it.

Torch classifications

There are five known classifications of torch placement. Floor torches and wall torches are acceptable. Torches placed directly over water or bottom slabs are considered "border torches", because Slip is fairly ambivalent about them. But a torch placed on a wall directly above a full block (or near-full block such as soul sand, or other upper surface such as a top slab) is a sidetorch, and must be purged.

Not all torch placement scenarios are currently known. For example, it is not known whether a sidetorch above glass is prohibited, nor whether any orientation of stairs below the torch would be considered acceptable.

G.H.A.S.T.

On Hermitcraft season 3, Slip founded an organization named Good Hermits Against Side Torch, with an aim to educating all Hermits and Hermitcraft viewers in correct torch placement.

Sidetorches in ARK

The matter of sidetorches in ARK: Survival Evolved has not yet been investigated in detail, but it is certainly conceivable that there is a limit to how far down a wall a wall-mounted torch can be placed before it becomes a sidetorch. Where this limit falls is not currently established.
